Known as the Navy Hymn, I will always hold very special the memory of 1000 Midshipmen singing it at the Sunday worship service at the Chapel at Annapolis where we ended our southern tour in 1979. Last summer, I heard it rung very movingly by 100 ringers at a Handbell Directors Convention in Cincinnati. In 1982, we rang at the Margraten Cemetary in the Netherlands where 8,301 American men are buried having given their lives in World War II. A deeply moving experience for all of us. Eternal Father, Strong to Save.
